Tortilla and Taco Lab

One dough, three ways.

About 2 hours · Ages 9+ · Up to 6 families · $250 per parent-and-kid team

The class

One dough, three ways

Every team makes fresh flour tortilla dough, then turns it into three things: soft tacos, crispy strips for soup, and a cinnamon sugar dessert.

Fresh flour tortillas

Mixed, rested, rolled and cooked on a comal.

Tacos

With a filling your team makes while the dough rests. Vegetarian is easy.

Sopa de lima

A bright lime soup from the house pot. Teams finish their own bowls with lime, chiles, cilantro and the crispy strips they fried.

Cinnamon sugar crisps

Fried tortilla triangles tossed in cinnamon sugar for dessert.

How it goes

Made together, start to finish

Every parent-and-kid team works at its own station, with an instructor guiding the room.

  1. 1

    Make the dough.

Mix fresh flour tortilla dough and let it rest.

  2. 2

    Make the filling.

Cook your taco filling while the dough rests.

  3. 3

    Roll and cook.

Roll tortillas and cook them on the comal.

  4. 4

    Fry two ways.

Thin strips for the soup, triangles for dessert.

The finale

And then you set your own table.

While your food bakes or simmers, your team styles its own table for the meal: pick a tablecloth (or none), flowers, and dishes and serving pieces from our collection.

Along the way, learn where the fork, knife and spoon go, with a small guide at every table. Break the rules if you like, as long as you do it on purpose.

One award goes to the best tablescape.

The meal

What you make and enjoy

A full taco dinner, soup and dessert, eaten together at the table you set.
